Aerial Arts - 2017 Summer Camps

BAM Academy and Valeria’s Wings Circus Camp is a 5-day SUMMER camp in Austin Texas, where your kids get to experience aerial highs at Pilates Durango. Focus is on Aerial Equipment Fabrics, Lyra(hoop), & Trapeze. For girls and boys entering grade 1-8 (alternate ages accessed individually ). Learn beginner and intermediate skills on aerial hammocks, aerial fabrics, aerial trapeze and aerial lyra. Explore contact improve, human juggling, and learn how to develop performance characters for routines.





Classes

Aerial Series offered at BAM (CONFIRMATION NEEDED )
​​Level 1 Aerial Trapeze, Lyra & Fabrics

BAM and Valeria’s Wings host a six-week series on software: aerial fabrics (tissue) and hardware: Trapeze and Lyra. These series classes are designed to learn progressive technique training while learning the tricks that make aerial appealing to all. With a focus on safety and injury prevention, classes will consist of conditioning both on and off of the equipment, flexibility training, and aerial skills, and basic choreography. This class is designed for flyers with basic skills to newbies.

March 22 – April 28 (Six Week Series )

Mornings:
Times: 11AM-noon, Tuesdays & Thursdays (Home School) BAM NORTH
Ages 8-16 (Geared for Homeschool Kids)

Afternoon:
Times: 4pm-5pm, Tuesdays: Aerial Fabrics

Stilt Walking– Is it for you? Invite Val to your Studio or summer camps to teach Stiltwalking for Professionals and for FUN.
COURSE CIRRICULUM
• How do you get started?
• What kind of stilts should you use?
• How tall should the stilts be?
• Working on stilts safely.
• Which costume tricks will be the most effective?

Chapter 1: Intro to Stiltwalking
Introduction, The Rules of Stiltwalking, Parts of the Stilts, Sizing your stilts, Inspection of your Stilts.

Chapter 2: Strapping on your Stilts, Falling-Knee Drop, Getting up, First Steps/Holding Your Body, Hand to Hand, Finger Walk, Walking on Your Own.

Chapter 3: Fun Walking, Beyond Walking: Turning, Twirling, Kicks, Steps & Stairs

Chapter 4: Stilting Outside the GYM, Special Environments: Walking on Rough Terrain, Crowd Walking.

Chapter 5: Extras: Equipment, Schools, Costuming
- Max 8 people per class
- Wear closed-toe shoes and long pants (eg. Jeans)
+ a willing attitude and being open to awesomeness, everything else provided!

Private Instruction
Val offers classes and private lessons on silks (tissu), hoop (lyra), and static trapeze. The aerial tissu is a fabric that students use to wrap, swing, drop, and spiral their bodies into various positions. Similarly, the aerial hoop allows the acrobat to conduct beautiful spin and swinging tricks on a large metal hoop suspended in the air. The static trapeze is a metal bar that hangs from the secure rigging and is used for aerial conditioning, flexibility, and progressing into learning tricks and sequences both in the ropes and with the bar of the trapeze.
